Competed at five of the six regular season EISA Carnivals, earning first place finishes in eight of the ten races he competed in... Started the season with first and second place finishes at the Bates Carnival and concluded regular season with two first place finishes at UNH... Named All-East First Team as well as the EISA Classic discipline leader... Back-to-back 7.5K Individual National Champion after winning the 7.5K Classic race at the 2025 National Championship... Earned First-Team All-America status for first place finish as well as second place finish in the 20K Freestyle mass start.
JUNIOR (2024)
Capped successful junior season with an individual National Championship in the 7.5k freestyle and earning USCSCA Men's Nordic National Skier of the Year honors ... Won the 20K men's classic mass start at the EISA Championship prior to his national championship win ... Also won the 20K classic at the Colby Carnival and two events including the classic sprint at the UVM Carnival.
SOPHOMORE (2023)
Became first Big Green skier in 52 years to earn All-America First Team status in both freestyle and classical events at one NCAA Ski Championships by placing second in both races … All-East First Team … USCSA National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team … missed the first three carnivals while racing at the national and international levels … reached the podium in the U.S. Cross Country Ski National Championships, placing second in the 10K free … also competed at the FIS U23 World Ski Championships at Whistler … made an immediate impact upon returning, finishing fourth in the 10K classic at Harvard while helping the 3x5K classic relay team finish second … won the 10K free at Williams the next week, plus landed on the podium in the 10K classic as well in third place to earn the EISA Male Nordic Skier of the Week award… doubled up on the award the following week after the EISA Championships where he won the 10K free and took second in the 10K classic … chosen as the DartmouthSports.com Male Athlete of the Week after his historic performance at the NCAA Championships.

Born on Oct. 1, 2001 in San Francisco … son of John Hagenbuch and Kimberly Steel has two brothers and two sisters … mother is a member of the Class of 1984 … five other relatives graduated from Dartmouth as well … family is also athletic with a father who played football and rugby at Princeton, grandfather John Steel III who played football and basketball at Dartmouth (Class of 1954), uncles John Steel IV and Bruce Steel who played tennis at Dartmouth (Classes of 1980 and 1988, respectively) and another uncle Kevin Steel who played tennis at Brown … enjoys mountain biking, running and alpine skiing as well.
