Equestrian
vs Centenary (N.J.)
Before Dartmouth
Sophie King comes to Dartmouth from Newton North High School where she ran Varsity Cross Country. She also attended Montclair High School in Montclair, N.J. before her family moved to Newton, Mass. her junior year.
Personal
King is the daughter of Richard and Amanda King. She has two brothers and one sister.
Why Dartmouth?
Dartmouth was the first school I visited, and I fell in love with it. No school that followed could match the student body spirit, beautiful campus, access to the outdoors, and opportunities for me. I was also interested in the equestrian team!
How long have you been riding and what got you interested in riding?
My favorite book when I was little was about a girl also named Sophie who rode horses, so I saw this as my destiny from a young age. When I turned 6, my parents let me take some riding lessons for my birthday present. I kept riding over the years, and I started working at my barn when I was older.
Tell me something that might come as a surprise to your teammates:
My mom is from England, and I had a British accent until I started elementary school. I’m a dual citizen and would love to live there at some point.
What activities are you involved in outside of the equestrian team?
I am planning to get involved in some kind of volunteer organization, and pursue winter sports in our offseason. I’m still exploring!
What are your future plans?
I am not sure yet, but I am going to continue trying out classes in a variety of departments to see what I like.
