With the departure of one Cormier son came the arrival of another as James Cormier joined the Big Green staff during the summer of 2014. In his first season at Dartmouth, he helped guide the team to a fourth-place finish in the Ivy League and its first postseason berth in 56 years.
The youngest of four brothers, this Cormier arrived in Hanover following a year as an assistant at Northfield Mount Hermon School, where numerous Big Green players have played in recent years, including John Golden and Tommy Carpenter. Among his responsibilities were developing and managing preseason and in-season strength and conditioning as well as individual skill training programs.
Cormier also broke down game film and scouting opposing teams, plus recruited both domestic and international players to attend the school. Not only did NMH finish the year 23-9, but it reached the semifinals of the national tournament and held the No. 1 ranking for three weeks during the season.
Prior to his stint at NMH, Cormier served as a graduate assistant coach at Rutgers-Newark University, providing academic monitoring and mentoring to the student-athletes, managing the daily basketball operations, and preparing recruiting and scouting plans. The Scarlet Raiders posted a 20-10 record and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
In addition, Cormier, has worked with Hoop Group as a counselor, clinician and skills coach the last two years, and developed the Hard2Guard website for which he manages the content regarding workout tips group and individual instruction.
Cormier graduated from LeMoyne College in 2012 and served as captain of the basketball team in his senior campaign. He hit 40.4 percent of his three-point attempts in his final season, contributing to the 99 he made in his career while scoring 515 points to go with 265 assists.
