Q & A with Amanda
Why did you choose Dartmouth?
I chose Dartmouth because it was a small school in a rural area on the east coast of the United States. It's an Ivy League school that's ranked #1 in undergraduate studies and also has Division I sports. The atmosphere and the attitude of the people that go to Dartmouth was something that attracted me and made me feel like I could fit right in! In other words, Dartmouth is absolutely perfect for me!!!
How long have you been competing in track and what got you interested?
I've been competing in Track and Field since the sixth grade (about 7 years). My whole life I played basketball, and I joined track in order to get in better shape. My coaches in elementary school noticed I was stronger than the normal girl and thought I should throw the shot put. I made states for shot put, and wound up making the nationals in Orlando, Florida representing CYO NY. This competition had introduced me to the discus, which is something I had picked up in 7th grade. I started to throw javelin during my freshman year in high school.
Tell me something interesting about you that might come as a surprise to your teammates.
When I was on the Varsity basketball team my sophmore year in high school, I was ranked #1 on Staten Island with the most 3 pointers average. I was also a starter on the team for all 3 years I played.
What are your future plans, if any?
I would like to be a part of some sort of medical or engineering field. Right now I'm considering something like physical therapy, but I'm not quite sure yet!
What extra curricular activities are you involved in on campus?
As of now, I'm part of FYSEP and want to start participating in a Catholic society here, such as the Aquinas House!
