Winning is the theme for this week’s athletes. In the case of this week’s male athlete, the heavyweight varsity eight boat earns the award for winning two cups competing as one unit. On the women’s side sophomore Cori Hoffer won two of the three races she competed in at UMass Amherst.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named The Richards Group Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

Despite brisk winds and choppy water on Saturday the heavyweight varsity defeated Syracuse by a mere second to take home the Packard Cup. The fifth-ranked Big Green came out on top with a time of 5:40.0 with the Orange following at 5:41.0. In a switch of venue the race was contested eighteen miles north of Hanover on beautiful Lake Morey.
The following day was a beautiful, sunny, calm day and the crew again came out on top. This time they were competing for the Bill Cup which is contested between Dartmouth and Boston University. Despite being behind a couple of seats off the start the Big Green took the lead and moved away in the second thousand. Dartmouth finished in 5:46.4, ahead of Syracuse (5:51.6) with Boston University coming in third (5:54.5)
