Throughout the summer, DartmouthSports.com will be focusing on members of the Class of 2025 who are currently in their "Sophomore Summers" presented by the Norwich Inn.
This installment focuses on Eli
Kimche of the men's golf program.
DartmouthSports.com: What is your favorite place on campus?
Eli Kimche: I really enjoy going to the golf practice facilities. They are constantly maintained in such incredible shape, and it is a nice way to escape the pressures of school.
DS: Outside of sports, what are you most passionate about?
EK: I spend most of my time outdoors, specifically fishing when I am not golfing. After COVID, I became passionate about fly fishing and loved spending time on the river.
DS: If you could choose one moment in sports history that you could have been at, what moment would it be and why?
EK: I would have loved to attend the iconic Buster Douglas vs. Mike Tyson fight in Tokyo, Japan. It remains one of the greatest upsets in sports history, and witnessing it live would have been an unforgettable experience. I love my mom and the emotions surrounding Buster Douglas's journey leading up to the fight have touched my heart. His impressive display of athletic ability and overcoming labels is inspiring.
DS: What would be your best advice to your 15-year-old self?
EK: Take advantage of every opportunity you have each day to get better. Stay focused on the positives and push yourself to explore the fringes of your comfort zones.
DS: How is Hanover different or similar to where you grew up?
EK: I grew up in Park City, Utah, an outdoor-centered city where I constantly participated in many fun activities out in nature. Hanover has many similarities but is definitely smaller in size. Growing up in a ski town, most of the revenue and flow of people comes from tourism, which isn't as prevalent here.
DS: Other than your parents, who has had the greatest influence on your life?
EK: One of the people who has had the greatest influence on my life has been Linda
Kneidinger. As a life coach and thinking expert, she has played a pivotal role in shaping both my athletic journey and my approach to everyday life. Her guidance and support have been instrumental in my personal growth, athletic success, and mindfulness.
DS: What has been your best on-course memory thus far in your Dartmouth career?
EK: My favorite memory so far in my Dartmouth career was walking off the final green of the Ivy League Championship. Although we fell just short of winning, I was met with overwhelming emotions as I was greeted by my teammates. The comradery and encouragement from my upperclassmen, those who have been so influential, meant the world to me and filled me with immense gratitude.
