HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth baseball welcomed the Merrimack Warriors to Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park, Wednesday, facing off for only the third time in program history. Despite a three-run first inning from the Warriors, the Big Green settled in to earn the 4-3 victory over Merrimack.
With the win, Dartmouth advances to 13-21 on the season and earns its first win in program history over the Warriors.
Merrimack was swinging early, leading off the first inning with a double. A hit batter put two on with one out, before an RBI double scored the game's first run. An RBI single and fielder's choice scored the next two runs, giving the Warriors a three-run lead.
The Big Green immediately responded in their half of the inning, all with two outs.
Milo Suarez and
Tyler Sirchia hit back-to-back singles, before
Chris Miller recorded the third hit of the inning, scoring Suarez from third to make it a 3-1 game.
Andrew Lombana got the start on the mound for the Big Green and after the first inning, allowed only two Warriors' hits through the next three innings, giving Dartmouth a chance to tie the game.
The Big Green did just that in the fifth.
Alejandro Puig led off the inning, reaching on an error. A sacrifice bunt and wild pitch advanced him to third, before he came home to score on a
Milo Suarez sacrifice fly. Two walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases before Merrimack's second wild pitch of the inning scored
Sam Andersen from third, tying the game at three runs apiece.
Dartmouth took the lead in the sixth.
Jack Espiritu-Niswonger led off the inning with a double. Three batters later, Andersen singled to send him home, giving the Big Green their first lead of the game.
The Big Green threatened to add insurance runs in the seventh and eighth, putting multiple runners on in back-to-back innings, but the Warriors were able to get out of the jams.
Merrimack was unable to muster anything in the ninth, securing the Big Green's third straight midweek victory.
Lombana finished the day with three runs on five hits in four innings, fanning one in the start.
Trey Sejnoha earned the win for five scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing just four hits and fanning six, tying a season and career high.
The Big Green will be back in action this weekend, wrapping games at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park with a three-game series against the Manhattan Jaspers. Dartmouth and Manhattan will face for only the sixth time in program history and the first time since 2022.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, May 2 beginning at 11:30 a.m. followed by a single game on Sunday, May 3 at 12 p.m. This weekend will also be senior weekend, as the Big Green will honor its seven seniors with a ceremony between games on Saturday.
