Regatta Report: NEISA's new singlehanded championship format brought 37 sailors to Lake Champlain where they were welcomed by a 15-20 knot Northerly and mid-40 degree temperatures on Saturday. Breeze calmed to a fairly shifty 14-16 knots with puffs to 19, 1-3 foot waves and it warmed to 50 degrees. 8 races sailed, courses averaging 28-32 minutes; all courses were windward leewards with offsets and gate marks, as sailors enjoyed a long cold day on the water. One request for redress was granted.
Sunday was warmer and lighter, with temps reaching 56 and breeze 11-14 knots with puffs to 16, still North and quite shifty for Lake Champlain. 6 more races sailed, same courses. Thanks to Bern Noack (Boats and Safety Czar) and Harvard, UNH, and the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center for providing coachboats and RC boats. Thanks to Fritz Horton, John Harris and the Lake Champlain Yacht Club for a superb RC boat and excellent RC work, and to judges Brent Harris (BU 05), Kate Massey (UVM 05) and Ryan Brown (UVM 05). Finally thanks for scoring by David Klebanoff 06, and braving the cold in the pinboat were Anna Taylor 08, Stu Hall 08, Kieran McGuire 08, Will Strehlow 09 and Matt Lankowski 07, and to all of the UVM Sailing Team who provided the grunt work to make this regatta a success.
