The Dartmouth women's volleyball team won its fourth in a row, defeating Brown 3-0 this evening in Leede Arena. It's the third consecutive match the Big Green has not dropped a game. Freshman Morgan Covington (Katy, Texas) was the spark plug for Dartmouth as her timely kills and blocks allowed the Big Green to come from behind several times in the victory. Dartmouth improves to 9-6 overall and 3-2 in the Ivy League while Brown falls to 5-12 and 1-4. Game scores were 30-28, 30-27 and 34-32.
In the opening contest Brown took an early lead before Megan MacGregor (Carlsbad, Calif.) served enough points to pull Dartmouth even. Brown continued to lead and never let the Big Green go ahead until a Dartmouth timeout and Amanda Marston (Austin, Texas) serving allowed Dartmouth to pull ahead 23-22. Brown then took its own timeout and promptly came back to tie the game. Dartmouth went up by two before another Bear timeout and another tie put the score at 28-28. Nadine Parris (Plymouth, Minn.) recorded the final kill of the game to give the Big Green a 30-28 win.
In the second game it was again Brown that took the early lead, going up by as much as four. The Big Green pulled within two behind Marston's serving, eventually going ahead. The Bears took control of the game and held it's biggest lead at 19-14 before Marston served six straight points to pull Dartmouth ahead 20-19. The two teams battled for the next couple of points before Jess Thomas (Tampa, Fla.) gave the Big Green a four-point advantage. With the scored tied at 26, Covington scored two points, Parris recorded a big kill and Katie Hirsch (Austin, Texas) had a monster solo block to end the game at 30-27.
The final game of the match proved to be very competitive. Dartmouth took a quick lead but Brown came back, to tie the game and go ahead. Covington got the next three points for the Big Green but Brown again went up by four. MacGregor served Dartmouth to the lead with the two teams then battling for each point. With Dartmouth leading 29-28, Brown tied the game before MacGregor helped the Big Green to the 34-32 win off a Brown setting error.
Thomas led the team in kills with 12 while digging 12 balls. Covington had 10 kills with two blocks. Hirsch was tops with 40 assists while Sandy Barbut (Los Angeles, Calif.), MacGregor and Marston all had double-digit digs with 11, 12 and 16, respectively. Parris and Barbut were stellar at the net as the two combined for seven blocks.
The Big Green will be back in action tomorrow in a Homecoming matchup with undefeated Yale. Game time is set for 4:00 pm in Leede Arena.
