HANOVER, N.H. - The No. 11/12 Dartmouth men's hockey team dropped its second game of the weekend, a 6-3 affair to visiting No. 13 Clarkson. The Golden Knights scored three goals in the first period led by Steve Zalewski with two goals and two assists.
Clarkson got on the board first with two goals less than three minutes apart early in the first stanza. A Clarskon win in the faceoff circle and a Dartmouth turnover in its own end led to the first two Golden Knights scores. The third Clarkson goal came as the Knights were on an extended power play.
Dartmouth got one back to start the second when senior defenseman Ben Lovejoy (Orford, N.H.) notched his second goal of the season. David Jones (North Vancouver, B.C.) set things up by passing across the ice to J.T. Wyman (Wayzata, Minn.). Wyman passed out to Lovejoy on the point as he one-timed the puck off the post over Clarkson netminder David Leggio's right shoulder.
Clarkson pulled ahead again by three just two minutes later off Matt Beca's first goal and the Golden Knights second power play.
Nick Johnson (Calgary, Alta.) kept the Big Green alive after tipping in a high shot by Tanner Glass (Craven, Sask.) with Jones also assisting at 14:32 in the second.
Clarkson scored two more in the opening frame of the final period to take a 6-2 lead. T. J. Galiardi (Calgary, Alta.) notched the Big Green's third power play strike with less than seven minutes to go in the game. Lovejoy and Kevin Swallow (Stanwood, Mich.) set up Galiardi's goal as the freshman has scored his second of the year.
Mike Devine in net for the Big Green had 18 saves while Leggio recorded 34 for the Knights. The Big Green outshot its first opponent of the season, getting 37 shots to Clarkson's 24. Dartmouth went 3-for-16 on power play chances while Clarkson was 3-for-8.
Dartmouth continues with ECACHL play taking to the road next weekend to take on Colgate and Cornell. The Big Green and the Raiders meet up on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:00 and then Dartmouth takes on Cornell on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7:00 pm.
