HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team scored twice in the second half, with the second strike coming just five seconds after Central Connecticut's goal, to defeat CCSU, 3-1. With the win the Big Green have won two straight and are now even at 2-2 on the season while CCSU falls to 2-4.
Freshman Ali Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass.) scored twice on the day for her first collegiate multiple-point game. Her first goal came just seven minutes into the contest. Emily Tracy (Belfair, Wash.) brought the ball down passing to Hubbard at midfield. Hubbard dribbled the ball, shooting from 25 feet out with the ball going just over the keeper under the crossbar, grazing the top of the net.
Dartmouth held the one goal advantage until the 73rd minute when Central Connecticut lit up the scoreboard off an unassisted free kick by Ciara Crinion that went into the upper left side of the goal.
The Big Green answered right back as Kelsey Quick (Bernardsville, N.J.) notched her first of two assists on the day. Quick picked up the ball at midfield passing up to a streaking Megan Wijas. Wijas, on the right flank, crossed to Maggie Goldstein (Hillsborough, Calif.) who one-timed the ball into the lower right side of the netting.
Hubbard gave the Big Green some insurance in the 83rd minute of play with her second goal of the day. Quick stole the ball from a CCSU defender in the box passing to an oncoming Hubbard who shot into the lower left corner.
Dartmouth's defense allowed just two Central Connecticut shots on goal with the Big Green leading 21-7 in shots for the day. It's the second time in as many games that the Big Green has recorded 20 or more shots in a game. Dartmouth keeper Amanda Webb (Danvers, Mass.) had to make only two saves while CCSU keeper Caity Casey needed to stop nine Big Green shots.
It was the second-ever meeting between the two programs as Dartmouth has won both games.
The Big Green will next travel to the Gopher Invitational in Minnesota, taking on host Minnesota at 7:00 pm on Friday and then Iowa at 11:00 am on Sunday.
