LOUISVILLE, K.y ? The Dartmouth field hockey team dropped their first game of the 2006 season to Red Hawks of Miami of Ohio 4-1 in Louisville, K.y.
The Red Hawks came out firing in the first half out shooting the Big Green 9-1. Five minutes in Miami converted on a penalty corner beating sophomore net minder Jordan Sedlacek (Golden, Colo.) to take a 1-0 lead.
In the 27th minute Dartmouth's co-captain Whitney Waugh (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) sent a pass from the right flank across the cage where forward Lizzie Bildner (Manchester, Mass.) beat Miami goalie Kelsey Dean.
Miami went on to score twice more in the first half, their third goal coming with just two seconds remaining on the clock to take a 3-1 lead at the half.
In the second half the Big Green out shot Miami 6-4, as well as had twice as many penalty corners, but couldn't beat Dean. The Red Hawks tipped a penalty corner late in the second half to wrap up a 4-1 win.
Sedlacek finished with seven saves, while Dean recorded two for the win. Each goalie played all 70 minutes.
The Big Green are in action again tomorrow as they take on the University of Louisville. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
