Hanover, N.H. - Avenging last year's 7-0 loss, the Dartmouth women's tennis team topped the Boston College Eagles 4-3 at the Alexis Boss Tennis Center today. The Big Green came out strong, dominating at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to win the doubles point. Junior Megan Zebroski and freshman Mary Beth Winingham stunned the ITA East Region's No. 9-ranked team of Lauren Cash and Dasha Cherkasov 8-2, and junor Natalie O'Rourke and freshman Jesse Adler also played textbook doubles to win 8-2 at No. 3.
At No. 1 singles, Zebroski used her all-court game and arsenal of dropshots to beat Lana Krasnopolsky, a quarterfinalist at October's ITA East Regional Championships, 6-3, 7-5. Krasnopolsky, who is ranked No. 14 in the ITA East Region and has a No. 71 national ranking, was given a point penalty for ball abuse after Zebroski broke her at love to go up 6-5 in the second. Zebroski maintained her focus and held on to win the set 7-5 and clinch the match for the Big Green. Dartmouth was up 4-2 at that point, with senior co-captain Kerry Snow still on the court. Snow split sets with Alina Sullivan at No. 4 singles just as Zebroski clinched, so the coaches agreed they would play a super tie-breaker for the third set. After a long, hard-fought match, Snow fell just short, losing 5-7, 7-5, 10-4.
At No. 2 singles, Mary Beth Winingham battled back and almost took the second set against Dasha Cherkasov, the ITA East Region's No. 26-ranked player and BC's former No. 1 player. Senior co-captain Lindsay Winingham also faced a tough opponent at No. 3 singles, Lauren Cash. She battled against Cash, who reached the quarters of the ITA East Regional Championships in 2005 as a freshman, but was edged 6-2, 7-5. Freshman Jesse Adler dominated Gia Nafarrete 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, and Jamie Caplan was winning 3-0 when her opponent retired at No. 6.
The Big Green return to action at home on February 3 to face Albany and Stony Brook.
