HANOVER, N.H. - Senior Captain Whitney Waugh (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) scored the gamewinner on Dartmouth's second stroke of the shootout, while senior goaltender Ashley Heist (Byrn Mawr, Pa.) made the final three stops to propel the Big Green over New Hampshire, 3-2.
Dartmouth got the scoring started as senior Lizzie Bildner (Manchester, Mass.) tipped home a shot from Waugh on the Big Green's first penalty corner of the game. New Hampshire evened the score at 1-1 four minutes later when Cally Cooke connected on a penalty stroke.
Junior Ashley Hines (Newburyport, Mass.) put Dartmouth back on top early in the second on a nice feed from classmate Stef Miller (South Plainfield, N.J.) on another penalty corner.
The Wildcats, however, would not go away. With under 10 minutes remaining in the contest, Sophie Ostroski drove into the circle from the left side and tucked it past junior goaltender Jordan Sedlacek (Golden, Colo.) to tie the game at 2-2.
The teams played evenly throughout the rest of regulation and the first overtime. New Hampshire was able to earn a couple of corners in the second overtime, but could not capitalize as the Big Green stood tall. The best chance for Dartmouth came with under 10 seconds remaining when Bildner broke into the offensive end, but goaltender Margaux Shute stepped out and tripped up Bildner as time expired.
Heist entered in goal for the shootout and was amazing. She stopped four-of-five shots in the shootout, including the final three to give Dartmouth its third win of the season.
Sedlacek had another outstanding game in net with 10 saves, while Shute matched her save-for-save with eight stops of her own. New Hampshire had a 10-4 advantage in penalty corners and the teams were even with 22 shots apiece.
The Big Green will look to build on tonight's game as Dartmouth faces Davidson College at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Boston College on Sunday beginning at 3 p.m. at Scully Fahey Field.
