NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Dartmouth field hockey team dropped a tough 1-0 double overtime decision to Yale in an Ivy League matchup on Saturday afternoon. Cat Lindroth gave the Bulldogs the 1-0 win just 35 seconds into the second overtime.
In the first half, the Bulldogs (5-5, 2-2 Ivy) came out firing with five shots and three penalty corners in the first eight minutes of the game. Senior goaltender Jordan Sedlacek (Golden, Colo.), however, was up to the task as she made three of her career-high 13 stops.
Sedlacek and the Dartmouth (2-7, 1-3 Ivy) defense were tested often in the half, but the Big Green were able to keep the game scoreless, thanks to six saves by Sedlacek.
Dartmouth had its best chance late in the first half as senior captain Whitney Waugh (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) got three consecutive shots on goal, but Yale goaltender Charlotte Goins matched Sedlacek and made all three stops.
Much like the first half, Sedlacek and Goins were the story in the second half. Sedlacek continued to keep the Big Green in the game with seven second half saves, while Goins stopped two.
Yale got a great opportunity to go on top when Katie Contore earned a penalty stroke midway through the second half, but Sedlacek made the stop.
At the start of the first overtime, Waugh and classmate Lizzie Bildner (Manchester, Mass.) fired four shots on net, three from Bildner, but Goins made the saves.
The Bulldogs outshot the Big Green 23-14 and the penalty corners were about even with the 8-6 advantage going to Yale.
The Big Green will be returning to Scully Fahey Field this coming Wednesday as Dartmouth faces in-state rival New Hampshire at 6 p.m.
