Parsons Earns Spot on the Under-22 Select Team

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – A six-point day from freshman Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) blasted the Big Green women's hockey team past ECACHL opponent, Union, Saturday afternoon, 9-1.

Parsons got things started early for the Big Green, netting her first goal of the game at 8:38 of the opening period with assists coming from Gillian Apps (Unionville, Ont.) and Carrie Thompson (Shorewood, Minn.).

She had her hand in the team's second goal of the day as she, and Caroline Ethier (Matagami, Que.) set up Katie Weatherston (Thunder Bay, Ont.) to record her first point of the afternoon.

With just 10 ticks left in the first period, Union got on the board. Meagan Beck buried a shot past freshman netminder Sarah Kennedy (Jasper, Alta.) bringing it to a one-goal game. Becks goal was the first time that Dartmouth has allowed a goal by Union since the 2004-2005 season.

In the final 40 minutes, the No. 3 ranked Big Green pulled away with the contest. Dartmouth scored four goals in four minutes of play in the second period, giving them an almost insurmountable lead over the Dutchwomen, with a 6-1 lead.

Jenna Cunningham (Medicine Hat, Alta.), Sarah Toupal (White Bear Lake, Minn.), Apps and Parsons netted the four marks in the period. Nicole Ruta (Pickering, Ont.) and Amy Cobb (Edina, Minn.) recorded assists.

The Big Green increased their lead in the final period, putting up three more goals. Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.) scored her fifth goal of the season just three minutes in, and then Weatherston netted her second of the day just 18 seconds after.

Parsons started where she left off, scoring the day's last goal, and her third of the game, at 19:03, capping off Dartmouth's, 9-1, win.

With the six-point day, Parsons moves to the top of the teams scoring list. The freshman now has 39 points on 11 goals and 28 assists. Between her two games against Union this season, Parsons has recorded seven goals and six assists.

Another milestone occurred as Weatherston netted her 100^th career goal against the Dutchwomen, leaving her just four goals shy of third place all-time for goals among Big Green skaters.

Dartmouth, who now moves to 19-4-2, will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Colgate and Cornell for two more crucial league games.
