PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Dartmouth got two first half goals from Ashley Hines (Newburyport, Mass.) and Katy Hagy (Bedford, N.H.) and held off the Brown Bears for a 2-1 victory in their Ivy League season opener on Saturday afternoon.
Dartmouth wasted no time getting on the board as Hines tallied an unassisted goal for her first of the season, just seven minutes into the game. The Big Green kept the pressure on Brown, out-shooting the Bears 9-6 in the first half and it paid off as Hagy put Dartmouth on top 2-0 late in the first half.
Brown cut the deficit to one with an unassisted goal from Andrea Posa to open the second half. The Big Green, however, continued to control the game with a 7-2 second half advantage in penalty corners.
Dartmouth goaltender Jordan Sedlacek (Golden, Colo.) got her second win of the season, making eight saves, including five in the second half.
The Big Green (2-1, 1-0 Ivy League) will travel across town to Providence College to face the Friars beginning at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
