Hanover, N.H. -The Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team put forth an impressive performance in Karl Michael pool Saturday, to beat the previously 5-1 Boston University Terriers 154-146. The event was highlighted by numerous season-best performances by the Big Green women and a pool record in 3 meter Diving event for Boston.
Dartmouth began the day with a victory and season-best performance of 1:50.10 in the 200-yard medley relay by sophomore Carolyn Rippe (Colleyville, Texas), junior Heather Jankins (Raynham, Mass), senior co-captain Liz Mancuso (Andover, Mass), and junior Hillary Preston (Medina, Wash.).
Leading the Big Green women's win over the Terriers were great efforts by Jankins, who led the team with four victories, and Mancuso, who won three events.
Jankins won the 100 (1:07.24) and 200 yard breaststrokes, earning a lifetime best time of 2:25.13 in the 200. She also contributed to victories in both the 200 yard medley and 200 yard freestyle relays for the Big Green.
Mancuso took home the 50 yard free with a time of 24.83. Finishing a close second was Hillary Preston at 25.15. Mancuso also won the 100 yard fly with a time of 59.05, and took part in the winning 200 yard medley relay for Dartmouth.
Freshman Anna Sonstegard (Sioux Falls, S. Dakota) contributed to the winning effort by holding off Boston's Christina Ruggierio in the final seconds of the 500 freestyle to win in a time of 5:12.35.
The women's 200-yard fly was one of the most exciting races on the day. Freshman Virginia Selden (Birmingham, Ala) trailed most of the race to Boston University's Sarah Doersam. Selden surged within the final 50 yards, but finished second at 2:08.60, .32 off Doersam.
On the diving boards, junior Tess Waresmith of Boston University set a Karl Michael pool record in women's 3 meter diving with a final score of 304.88.
This win moves the Big Green's record to 2-5 overall and drops Boston University's overall record to 5-2. The Big Green women's next action will be January 19, against Yale and Penn in New Haven, Conn. The meet begins at 11 a.m.
