Fort Meyers, Fla. - The Dartmouth women's tennis team went 3-2 in singles against No. 52 Ohio State at the Florida Gulf Coast/Johan Kriek Classic in Fort Meyers, Fla. on Saturday. In doubles, the Big Green was 2-2 versus No. 32 Wichita State, 2-1 against Florida Gulf Coast, and 1-0 versus Stetson to go 8-5 overall on the day.
The Big Green got into an early hole against the Buckeyes, losing the first set in four of the five singles matches. First-year
Molly Scott rebounded at No. 1 to defeat Paloma Escobedo 1-6, 6-4, 13-11 in the third set super-breaker. Freshman Escobedo was the top-ranked junior player in Texas and the 19th-ranked player in the 2007 recruiting class. Sophomore
Mary Beth Winingham also rebounded at No. 3, downing four-time Nebraska state high school champion Cami Hubbs 1-6, 6-2, 10-8. Sophomore
Carley Markovitz cruised 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 singles, besting OSU's 2007 win-leader Julie Voss. Senior tri-captain
Megan Zebroski fell 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 singles to Julie Blackmore, the Buckeyes' top player last year, and sophomore
Jesse Adler was edged 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 (super-breaker) at No. 4 singles by team captain Caitlin O'Keefe.

Ryan Reichel defeated Stetson University's Catherine Canady 6-3, 0-6, 10-7, and senior tri-captain
Maggie Suydam fell to Maria Jose Vallasciaini of Florida International University 8-0.
In doubles, the Big Green was 5-3 overall. Against Wichita State, Scott-Zebroski defeated the Shockers No. 1 team of Dalmacio-Ferreira 8-5 (Stephanie Dalmacio is ranked No. 77 nationally in singles), and Markovitz-Reichel downed Elkin-Bosch 8-2 at No. 4. At No. 2, Winingham-Adler fell to Egorva-Lavaroiu 8-5 and the No. 3 team of sophomore
Julia Zak and Suydam lost to Hanisch-Browning 8-5.
Against Florida Gulf Coast, Scott-Zebroski won 8-4 over Maggiorini-Braniecka, Winingham-Adler crushed Pfeiffer-Vaughn 8-1, and Zak-Suydam were edged by Kinley-Johnson 9-8 (7-3). Against Stetson, Markovitz-Reichel racked up their second win of the day, defeating Canady-Lange of 8-4.
Sunday, the Big Green squares off against No. 11 Miami in singles and No. 31 Florida International in doubles.
