Hanover, N.H. ? The Dartmouth women's soccer team dominated play in a 1-0 victory over Bryant this evening at Burnham Field.
It was the final nonconference game for Dartmouth (6-5-1, 0-3 Ivy), who outshot Bryant (2-8-3), 19-5 in the match.
The Big Green pressured the Bulldogs from the start with Becky Poskin (Leawood, Kan.) challenging Bryant's defense in just the second minute with a good look at the goal.
Dartmouth had a golden opportunity in the 29th minute after a run into the Byrant box. Junior Ali Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass.) emerged from the crowd with a shot that hit the post and classmate Maggie Goldstein was just inches off with a close-range rebound attempt that hit the crossbar before Bryant cleared it out.
After controlling play but allowing Bryant some chances to break through, Dartmouth held a 7-3 shot advantage in the first half.
The Bulldogs came out blazing in the second, half, pushing the Big Green back defensively from the start. After a corner kick, Alex DiPippo fired a shot that Dartmouth senior Laurel Peak (Redding, Conn.) saved. A second corner kick resulted and Molly Wallace shot but it went wide.
Dartmouth turned it around a few minutes later with a dangerous sequence in the 49th minute. Goldstein came down the left side and faked out her defender, turned and fired from 15 yards out but Jessica Clark made the save for Byrant. Dartmouth rookie Jennifer Williams (Seven Hills, Ohio), followed the shot and got tied up with Clark after a close-range attempt.
The Big Green continued to pressure the Bulldogs, maintaining possession for nearly the entire half. Bryant did not have another shot after the 46th minute. Dartmouth broke through in the 63rd minute when its top-scoring duo connected for a beautiful goal. Junior Kelsey Quick (Bernardsville, N.J.) made a nice run down the right side and crossed the ball through the box to a streaking Myra Sack (Wynnewood, Pa.) who timed her header perfectly past Clark.
Dartmouth was not content with its 1-0 lead and continued to pressure Bryant for the balance of the game, holding a 12-2 shot advantage in the second. Sack nearly had another goal in the 72nd minute when she took a hard shot from the right side but Clark slowed it down and tipped it out of bounds.
The Bulldogs had a chance to score with just five minutes left when Brooke Duchaney broke through the defense and had a good read on Peak in goal. Senior back Emily Forline (Bethesda, Md.) preserved the win when she came sprinting in from the left and slid the ball out.
Dartmouth finished its nonconference slate with a 6-2-1 record, falling only to Maryland and Virginia.
The Big Green gets back to Ivy play this weekend when it hosts defending champs Penn at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18 on homecoming.
