Stowe, VT - Even with the cross-country women's two-day podium sweep and three podium finishes by the men's cross-country team, the Big Green was unable to exit the weekend with a win at the UVM EISA Carnival.
Dartmouth freshmen Ida Sargent followed yesterday's 10-kilometer classic race victory with a first place finish in today's free style race held at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe Vermont. Sargent finished with a time of 3:08.69 with captain and senior teammate Elsa Sargent behind her in second and freshmen teammate Rosie Brennan in third.
The Big Green cross-country men also had an excellent day with senior Dakota Blackhorse Von-Jess winning the free style race with a time of 2:42.31 and sophomore teammate Patrick O'Brien close behind him in second. Juergen Uhl from the University of Vermont was third. Junior Max Hopkins placed 11th and was Dartmouth's third finisher.
Jilyne McDonald from the University of Vermont won the women's slalom race with a time of 1:41.30. Veronique Archambault-Leger from the University of New Hampshire was close behind her in second and Middlebury's Tucker Vest-Burton finished third. Dartmouth sophomore Hayley Jones lead the Big Green alpine women with a seventh place finish with sophomore Christine Roberts in 12th and captain and senior Michelanne Shields in 13th. Freshmen Courtney Hammond was second after the first run but hiked in her second run.
The Big Green alpine men had a tough day of slalom with only one finisher in the top ten racers. Charles Christianson from Williams, who won yesterday's giant slalom race, dominated the competition again with a first place in today's slalom. Christianson won the race with a time of 1:29.70 with Colby's Vincent Lebrun-Fortin in second and UVM's Bobby Paulus in third. Sophomore Francis Fortin-Houle lead the Dartmouth men with his tenth place finish with captain and senior Dave Chodounsky in 24th and junior Scott Linton in 29th.
Despite the successes of the Big Green Nordic teams this weekend, Dartmouth could not conclude the weekend with another victory. Middlebury won the overall carnival with a score of 628 points with the University of Vermont close behind them in second with 624 points and Dartmouth in third with 604 points.
Dartmouth will host the next EISA Carnival on Feb. 8-9.
