HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's tennis team won their seventh consecutive match today beating previously undefeated Rutgers University 6-1 at the Boss Tennis Center and Gordon Pavilion. This is the second Big East opponent Dartmouth has bested this spring.
The Big Green once again won the doubles point, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 and received a default at No. 3, as Rutgers was a player short due to injury. At No. 1 doubles senior tri-captain
Megan Zebroski (Port Washington, N.Y.) and freshman
Molly Scott (Trabuco Cyn, Calif.) won 8-2 and sophomores
Jesse Adler (Winnetka, Ill.) and
Mary Beth Winingham (Carmel, Ind.) won 8-5 at No. 2.
Dartmouth carried their momentum into singles as freshman
Georgiana Smyser (Houston, Texas) was the first off the court with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles. The Texan has lost only two games in her last two outings. Scott recorded her sixth-straight victory at No. 1, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Katrina Elder-Bush. Winingham and Adler won in straight sets at No. 3 and 4 for their seventh consecutive victories of the spring, but Zebroski ran into a tough opponent at No. 2, falling to the undefeated freshman Amy Zhang 7-6, 6-3. Zebroski battled back from a 4-0 deficit in the second set to bring it to 4-3, but couldn't complete the comeback against the talented Texan.
As they've been doing throughout their February home matches, the Dartmouth team supported Breast Cancer Awareness Month today by sporting pink shoelaces and pink grips on their rackets today.
The Big Green returns to action on its spring break trip to Florida when it takes on #30 University of South Florida on March 15 at 11:00 a.m.
