Equestrian Named Reserve Champion At Ivy League Champs

ITHACA, N.Y. ? The Dartmouth equestrian team traveled to Cornell over the weekend to compete in the Ivy League Championships on Saturday, April 19th. The Big Green finished tied for Reserve Champion with Cornell, while Brown took top honors in a field of seven. The competition consisted of all the Ivies with the exception of Harvard.
The top six competitors in each event went on to compete in a championship class event, although results from this class did not count towards team points.
Captain Daisy Freund (New York, N.Y.) and sophomores Linda Cummins and Lucretia Witte all took home first-place finishes for the Green in the regular classes. Freund came out on top in the Open Flat, while Cummins and Witte finished first in the Walk Trot Canter and the Walk Trot respectively. All three also saw third-place finishes in the same events in the championship classes, with Freund also taking third in the regular class Open Fences and sixth in the championship class.
Senior Katherine Scovner (Manchester Center, Vt.) and junior Virginia Deaton (Salvisa, Ky.) both finished in second place in the regular class Intermediate Fences, and earned second- and fifth-place finishes respectively in the championship class event.
Other second-place finishes for the Green were made by senior Karelle Hall (Shaker Heights, Ohio) and junior Erica Anhalt (Guilford, Conn.). Hall finished second in the regular Intermediate Flat, earning sixth place in the championship class, while Anhalt's performance in the Walk Trot Canter earned her an additional fifth place championship class finish.
The next showing by the Big Green will be at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center from May 8-11 for the National Championships.
