Dominic Seiterle '98 Wins Olympic Gold with Canadian Rowing Team

BEIJING -- Dominic Seiterle '98 and the world champion crew from Canada is now Olympic champion after winning the Men's Eight with a time of 5:23.89, staying in front of second-place Great Britain from start to finish on Sunday. The British finished with a time of 5:25.11, just ahead of defending Olympic champion third-place United States, which finished in 5:25.34.

The Canadians broke a 35-year-old trend that has seen no reigning world champion in the Men's Eight collect Olympic gold. Their commanding seven second heat win over Poland on Monday, August 11, made them pre-race favorites to end the trend.

The crew from Great Britain was in second place throughout the race. The US crew passed the Netherlands at the 1500m mark to grab bronze.
