Six Heavyweight Oarsmen Set to Compete This Week at the 2026 Under-23 World Championships

HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth Heavyweight Rowing program will be well represented at this year's Under-23 World Championships, held July 23–26 in Duisburg, Germany.

Rising sophomores Jack Kastner and Fran McGrath earned the right to represent the U.S. in the men's pair by winning the USRowing trials earlier this month. McGrath has previously raced on the national team as a junior; this is Kastner's first national team and international racing experience.

Rising senior and 2026–27 team captain Matt Johnston will represent Great Britain in the men's eight. While Matt has represented GB as a junior, this will be his first U23 national team appearance. Great Britain is the reigning world champion in the event.

James Frederikson, a rising senior from Sydney, will represent Australia in the men's eight. Frederikson is competing at his third Under-23 World Championships, having won bronze in 2024 as a member of the men's eight.

Lucas Maroney '28 will represent Canada in the men's straight four. Maroney twice represented Canada as a single sculler at the Junior World Championships, highlighted by a fifth-place finish in 2024.

Lastly, Aron Kalmar '28 will represent Hungary in the men's quad. Aron has previously represented the country twice as a junior and last year at the U23s as a member of the men's straight four.
