HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth field hockey team will look to get back on the winning track as the Big Green heads to upstate New York to face Georgetown on Saturday and sixth-ranked Syracuse on Sunday.
The Big Green is coming off its first loss in five games with a 4-0 defeat at the hands of New Hampshire on Wednesday. Prior to the loss, Dartmouth had its longest winning streak since 2003 with four-straight victories.
Sophomore Kelly Hood (Berlin, N.H.) leads the team with 23 points, which is a career high. She is tops with eight goals and is second in assists with seven this season. However, she has been held scoreless in the last two games. Junior Rebecca Sobel (Larchmont, N.Y.) got off to a hot start and has cooled off as of late with one point in the last three games. She is second on the team with 19 points on seven goals and five assists.
Dartmouth has had contributions from junior Kelly McHenry (Williamsburg, Va.) and co-captain Virginia Pesich (Koenigstein, Germany). McHenry has been the primary stick-stopper on corners and has a team-high eight helpers on the year, while Peisch has a career-high two goals and has posted seven assists for 11 points. Sophomore Meghan Everett (Flemington, N.J.) has emerged as a goal-scoring threat with five goals on the season for 10 points. Goalkeeper Meagan Vakiener (Port Murray, N.J.) has started all 10 games and has a 3.89 goals against average and a .709 save percentage. She went on a career long four-game winning streak and lowered her goal against average allowing three or less goals during the streak.
The Hoyas are coming off a 2-0 loss to Richmond. Clodagh Coghlan (Pennington, N.J./Stuart Country Day) made 13 saves but could not stop the entire barrage of shots.
Kristen Volpe currently leads GU in scoring, with 17 points on seven goals and three assists. Volpe is currently tied for eighth in the BIG EAST with 17 points. Freshman goalkeeper Clodagh Coghlan currently leads the BIG EAST with 54 saves and six saves per game. Junior captain Annika Bannon is second in the BIG EAST with three defensive saves.
This will be the second meeting between these two schools and first since 1997. The Big Green won the first meeting 5-4 in overtime down in Washington, D.C.
The sixth-ranked Syracuse Orange pushed its win streak to eight and improved to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in BIG EAST play after defeating No. 9 Massachusetts 5-2 on Oct. 3 and shutting out No. 20 Albany 1-0 on Oct. 4. Lindsey Conrad has recorded a team-best 23 points off a team-high nine goals and five assists. Martina Loncarica and Amy Kee lead the team in assists with seven and six, respectively. Goalkeeper Leann Stiver has a goal-against-average of 1.20 and a saves percentage of .789 in the cage for the Orange.
Syracuse and Dartmouth will be meeting for the 10th time dating back to 1998 when the Orange defeated the Big Green 2-0. Syracuse holds a 7-2 advantage over Dartmouth. The Big Green's last win came in a 3-2 win in 2003 at home.
