NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - In the third match of their spring break trip, the Dartmouth women's tennis team snapped Cal State Northridge's six-match winning streak with a 6-1 victory over the Matadors yesterday afternoon. Dartmouth's record improves to 6-8 while Northridge moves to 9-9.
The Big Green won the doubles point thanks to victories from junior tri-captain
Jesse Adler (Winnetka, Ill.) and freshman
Carissa King (Charlotte, N.C.) at No. 2, and junior
Julia Zak (Bernardsville, N.J.) and sophomore
Georgiana Smyser (Houston, Texas), who won handily at No. 3.
In singles, freshman
Molly Scott (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) won her second-straight spring break match at No. 1, as did Smyser at No. 4, junior
Carley Markovitz (South Pasadena, Calif.) at No. 5, and sophomore
Ashley Mitchell (Charleston, S.C.) at No. 6. Adler also put a point on the board for the Big Green, battling back from a 2-5 second set deficit to win 7-5, 7-5 at No. 3. Junior tri-captain
Mary Beth Winingham (Carmel, Ind.) was edged in a close match at No. 2 by Brooke Doane, a talented all-court player.
Dartmouth returns to action at Long Beach State on Thursday, March 26, at 2 p.m.
