PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Despite Brown winning six events to the Big Green's three, the Dartmouth women's track and field team defeated the Bears 109.25-107 to win the Brown Invitational this past weekend.
The three wins went to the Big Green throwers. Sophomore Christina Alexander (Austin, Texas) won 10 points in the discus with a throw of 39.96 meters (131-01). Teammate Anna Niedbala (Palermo, Maine) finished in second place at 37.3 meters (122-04).
Senior Emily Daly (Hopkinton, Mass.) dominated the competition in the hammer throw. Daly's throw of 58.78 meters (179-09) sailed 20-feet farther than the second place finisher, Molly Hawsley of Brown (157-06). Daly came in second place in the shot put with a throw of 13.84 meters (45-05).
The third event Dartmouth won was the javelin. Freshman Alyson Pickett (Summerland, B.C.) claimed the win with a throw of 39.84 meters (130-08). sophomore Jaclyn Wypler (Ridgewood, N.J.) picked up eight more points with her second place finish, throwing the javelin 37.96 meters (124-06).
The rest of the points Dartmouth claimed can be attributed to its depth.
Dartmouth had five athletes win points in the high jump. Freshman Rocco Pallin (Kenosha, Wis.) finished in second place, clearing 1.65 meters (5-05). Sophomore Jessica Robson (Newport Beach, Calif.) immediately followed Pallin, claiming third place with a jump of 1.6 meters (5-03). Freshman Priscilla Trojano (West Bridgewater, Mass.), senior Karen Woolley (Herndon, Va.) and freshman Alexandra Nee (Duxbury, Mass.) all tied for fourth by clearing the bar at 1.55 meters (5-01).
The Big Green finished 2-3-4 in the 3000 meter run. Freshman Elizabeth Short (North Reading, Mass.) crossed the line in 10:21.57 for second place. Junior Laura Tabor (Portsmouth, N.H.) and freshman Amy Schuman (Lee, N.H.) followed short across the line in 10:26.44 and 10:29.7, respectively.
Dartmouth had similar results in the 1500-meter and 800 runs. Each race had three runners earn points.
Sophomore Andrea Imhof (San Francisco, Calif.) and Schuman finished in third and fourth place in the 1500-meter run. Imhof crossed the line in 4:52.76 and Schuman in 5:00.11. Freshman Marissa Greco (Princeton, N.J.) came in sixth place with a time of 5:02.14.
Senior Audrey Weber (St. Louis Park, Minn.), senior Marcy Van Arnam (Syracuse, N.Y.) and freshman Christina Supino (Windham, Mass.) won 12 points for Dartmouth in the 800-meter. Weber ran a time of 2:16.64 for third place. Van Arnam and Supino crossed the line in fourth- and fifth-places in times of 2:18.12 and 2:19.72, respectively.
Dartmouth will host New Hampshire, Vermont and Middlebury in a four-team meet April 18.
