AMHERST, Mass. - The Dartmouth men's track and field team joined the women's team as winners at the UMass Spring Meet with 177.5 points and four first-place finishers.
Junior Muhammed Abdul-Shakoor (Stone Mountain, Ga.) brought home first place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.90 and he also finished in third in the 200 meter dash at 22.12, while senior Tim Edmonds (Glen Mills, Pa.) finished ahead of Abdul-Shakoor with a second spot time of 22.08.
Senior Tim Wunderlich (Westminster, Md.) won the javelin event with a throw of 62.46 meters (204-11) and fellow field teammate Ted Lesher (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) earned first in the triple jump with a leap of 14.94 meters (49-00.25). The final first place finsher was freshman Jake Shoemaker (Sudbury, Mass.), who won the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:45.46.
Other top finishers included, senior Casey Diehl (Cumberland, Maine) who finished in second in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:31.19. Sophomore David Irving (Manchester, N.H.) took home two second-place finishes in the discus and hammer throws. In the discus, he took second with a toss of 46.27 (151-10) and finished the hammer with a throw of 55.8 meters (183-01). Joining Irving in the discus was third-place finisher Lee Murtha (Pierpont, Ohio), who tossed the disk 45.64 meters (149-09).
The Big Green also competed in the final day of the 114th Penn Relays and in the 4 x 800 meter relay, Dartmouth brought home 14th place with a time of 7:37.53 and it was there fastest time of the year and qualified them for the IC4A meet. The team was made up of freshman John Turro (Katonah, N.Y.), senior Trevor Middleton (New Orleans, La.), sophomore Ben Bramhall (Plymouth, Mass.) and sophomore Thomas Robbins (Evanston, Ill.).
The Big Green will be back on the track in a couple of weeks for Outdoor Heps at Penn on May 9-10.
