WORCESTER, Mass. ? The Dartmouth men's heavyweight crew opened the 2009 season with a clean sweep of Holy Cross at Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday.
The Varsity Eight won the tightest race of the day, finishing the 2000 meter course in 6:01.7 ahead of Holy Cross' 6:03.6.
Dartmouth's Second Varsity Eight also won its race, topping Holy Cross in 6:13.7 ahead of the Crusaders 6:22.6 The rookies performed equally well as the Novice Eight won its race in 6:13.5 ahead of the Dartmouth Third Varsity (6:15.9) and the Holy Cross freshmen in 6:45.9.
“This was a strong day for the program and all four boats raced well against a competitive Holy Cross crew,” said head coach Topher Bordeau. “We were pleased to leave Worcester with wins and have plenty to build upon.”
Dartmouth will look to keep its momentum this Saturday when it heads to New Haven, Conn. to battle Ivy foe Yale for the Olympic Axe.
