BLUE ISLAND, Ill. ? The Dartmouth heavyweight crew team couldn't claim a victory in either race they competed in Saturday as the Wisconsin heavyweight crew team swept three races from MIT and Dartmouth, including the Cochrane Cup.
The Badgers won the Varsity Eight race with a time of 6:04.4, followed by MIT (6:07.2) and the Big Green (6:16.4), to win the Cochrane Cup for the fourth consecutive year. Dartmouth raced in the Second Varsity race as well, finishing behind Wisconsin (6:14.3) in a time of 6:36.7.
Dartmouth also raced George Washington in a separate event Saturday, with the Colonials winning both races.
George Washington won the Varsity Eight race by more than six seconds ahead of the Big Green, 6:07 to 6:13.9.
In the Second Varsity race, the Colonials finished in a time of 6:11.8 with Dartmouth crossing the finish in 6:24.7.
In Boston on Saturday, the Big Green had a boat compete in the Novice Eight against Harvard and Northeastern. The Big Green finished second (6:26.9) behind Harvard (6:20.5) while Northeastern brought up the rear (6:34).
The Big Green will be back in the water Sunday, May 10 in Worcester, Mass. for the Eastern Sprints.
