HANOVER, N.H. ? Dartmouth men's basketball head coach Terry Dunn today announced the hiring of Michael Brown and Mark Graupe as the assistant coaches for his 2009-10 staff. Brown most recently served as an assistant coach for two years at Idaho State, while Graupe was on the staff at Colorado State this past year and has over 20 years of coaching experience.
“I am very happy these two men have joined the Dartmouth program,” Coach Dunn. “Both have terrific basketball experiences to draw upon, and I am excited about everything they bring to this program.”
In Brown's two years with the Bengals of Idaho State, he helped the team win 25 games while advancing to the Big Sky Tournament semifinals both seasons. Prior to his stint in Pocatello, he began his collegiate coaching career in the state of Maine at Bowdoin as an assistant during the 2006-07 campaign. He helped coach Tim Gilbride lead the Polar Bears to a 15-10 mark and a fourth consecutive winning season.
Brown was a two-time captain and four-year letterwinner with the Providence Friars, and was a big part of the 1994 squad that won the Big East championship. His 104 career starts rank fourth on the Friars' all-time charts, while his 1,163 points place him 21st. Brown also contributed 359 assists during his four years, 12th most in Providence history.

Graupe (pronounced GRAW-pee) spent one season with the Rams of Colorado State after seven strong seasons as the head coach at Lake Region State College (N.D.) where he posted an overall record of 126-95 (.570). In both 2007 and 2008, he guided Lake Region to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 13 title, earning regional coach of the year honors in both campaigns. Seven of his players went on to play at the NCAA Division I level at places like Binghamton, Jackson State, North Dakota and Southern, and three earned NJCAA All-America status.
Graupe also spent two seasons coaching boys basketball at Williston High School, four at Devils Lake High School and six at Unity High School, all in North Dakota. During three of his six years at Unity, he also coached the girls team.
A native of Crosby, N.D., Graupe earned his undergraduate degree in physical education and mathematics from the University of North Dakota in 1987, then earned his master's in kinesiology from UND in 2004. After his final season at Lake Region, he was presented by his alma mater with the Thomas J. Clifford Award for excellence in the coaching profession.
