HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth freshman Peter Williamson (Hanover, N.H.) will be part of the field for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship after winning the Massachusetts qualifier last week.
The Hanover native shot rounds of 70-68—138 for a four-under par score which gave him enough breathing room as he won the qualifier by five strokes at Shaker Hills Golf Club in Harvard, Mass. in the 36-hole tournament. He won the qualifier over Beon Yeong Lee of Montreal.
The Public Links Championship takes place at Aurora, Colo. at Murphy Creek Golf Club. The course will play at 7,551 yards and a par of 36-35—71. It will be the longest course in APL history surpassing Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove, Minn., which was 7,132 yards in 2004. The championship begins Monday and Tuesday, July 14-15 with stroke-play qualifying, 18 holes, (field reduced to the lowest 64 players, who advance to match play). The first round of match play begins on Wednesday, July 16, followed by second and third rounds of match play the next day. On Friday, July 18, it will be quarterfinals and semifinals of 18-hole match play, with the championship on Saturday, July 19.
