The 12th annual Chris Loder Trophy began today with Chris Lund a former team captain sharing a letter from Chris Loder who is in Germany. As usual Chris Loder's words were well chosen. Making a difference was his theme.
Racing began around noon with shifty breeze varying in strength from 4-8 requiring the RC and mark boat to make many course changes building to 6-9 with some higher gusts and settling in a more consistent direction in the afternoon. Races were on average 20 minutes in length. Two general recalls, several spins with some competitors forgetting to complete their penalty turns. No protests were filed. Thanks to many UNH Wildcats for manning the mark boat, grill, boat setup in the morning and assisting on the RC boat. Thanks also to Chris Lund and Kevin Buruchian who were on the water judges throughout the day.
Chris Lund did double duty and took many pictures which will be burned on CD's for each team to take home with them tomorrow.
Sunday greeted the sailors with fog and intermittent drizzle, Wildcat Muffins, hot coffee (the coffee urn kept tripping the circuit breaker) and juice. Everyone waited for the fog to lift and the breeze to build to what was predicted. The wait ended early in the afternoon with no breeze. Thanks to the following UNH sailors who helped out Saturday and Sunday: Jason on the RC boat who often held on for dear life during the many course changes; Martha and Grey who managed the mark boat and the grill; AJ (Sat.) and Amy (Sun.)with scoring; Capt. Paul who worked as on site boat manager, general generator fixer, and all the other things that were thrown at him; and especially the 4 teammates who did all the above AND still managed to get out there and race.
Specail thanks goes to Chris Loder who called Sunday morning from Germany to wish everyone good luck, assure us that he had been in London and not at Oktoberfest as his reason fro not attending. Chris Lund thank you very much for the 600 pictures you took yesterday and burned onto team CD's (he separated all the pictures into individual team photos). Kevin Buruchian our second judge thanks for your everlasting positive and energetic personality.
Congratulations to Dartmouth who won the 12th annual Loder Trophy.
