Orono, Maine - The Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team got its first wins of the season with victories over both Boston College and Maine in a two-day meet at Maine.
Dartmouth won 11 events to improve to 2-8 on the season with its wins over Boston College (5-6), 169.5 - 164.5 and over Maine (6-8), 238.5 - 93.5.
"Minor adjustments in training are turning into major accomplishments in the pool," said head coach Jim Wilson. "Great job by the freshmen picking up key victories all weekend and to the whole team for staying aggressive and focused. Looking good for the Big Green. "
Maddie Steiner won a close 200 yard IM in a time of 2:14.09 - a race that saw two other finishers less than a second behind her. Caitlin Nicholson picked up a convincing win in the 100 butterfly in 58.89.
Elizabeth Kamai won both of the freestyle sprints, taking the 50 yard free in 24.98 and the 100 free in 53.84. Virginia Selden took home the 200 butterfly in 2:11.60
Dartmouth took first and second in the 100 backstroke led by freshman Isa Guardalabene in 1:00.95 with sophomore Galen Barry second in 1:01.49. Barry went on to win the 200 backstroke in 2:11.98.
The Big Green also went one-two in the 100 breaststroke with Charlotte Williams taking first in 1:09.44 and Caitlin Keenan second in 1:09.62. Williams also won the 400 IM in 4:42.77 and took second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:28.55. Keenan was third in 2:29.27.
Sophomore Erica Serpico swept the one and three-meter diving events for the fifth straight meet. She won the one-meter with a score of 264.55, leading a Big Green sweep with Bridget Duffey second with 239 points and Kate O'Brien third, scoring 210.30. She won the three-meter with a score of 300.25 while Duffey took second, scoring 245.60.
The 200 medley relay team of Barry, Williams, Pinson and Foley took second to BC but defeated Maine in a time of 1:52.59. The 400 freestyle relay also took second to Boston College but defeated Maine, with Selden, Kamai, Guardalabene and Steiner finishing in 3:38.92. The meet also featured an 800 free relay, in which Dartmouth took second in a time of 7:56.44 by Foley, Steiner, Kamai and Selden.
