HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team opened the 2010-11 season with two losses on Saturday at Karl Michael Pool. The Big Green lost to Harvard, 222-78, and to Cornell, 173-125.
Against the Crimson, Freshman Nejc Zupan (Kamnik, Slovenia) earned a victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:38.44. He also bested all other competitors in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:28.82), beating the next closest competitor by over seven seconds.
The Big Green had multiple individual winners against the Big Red. Besides Zupan's two wins, junior Michael Ahern (Old Westbury, N.Y.) beat all Big Red competitors in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:53.12. In the 100-yard butterfly, sophomore Will Derdeyn (St. Louis, Mo.) and sophomore Albert Roth (Aurora, Ill.) finished first and second against Cornell with times of 51.33 and 51.38 respectively. Dartmouth also bested Cornell in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Big Green look to bounce back when they compete against Brown at Providence on Saturday, November 20, at 12 p.m.
