SCHENECTADY, NY – The Dartmouth women's hockey team scored two goals in a 25 second span in the first period and cruised to a 4-0 win over Union for its third straight win.
Darmtouth (11-12-2, 8-10-1 ECAC) got two goals from junior Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.), while senior co-captain Jenna Cunningham (Medicine Hat, Alta.) tallied two points on a goal and an assist. Senior co-captain Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) handed out a pair of assists and freshman Sasha Nanji (Markham, Ont.) added her sixth goal of the year. Freshman Whitney Woodcox (Oshawa, Ont.) recorded her first collegiate shutout, making 14 saves.
Union (5-25-1, 1-17-1 ECAC) took the lost with Alana Marcinko making 31 saves between the pipes in 40 minutes of ice time. Kate Gallagher relieved Marcinko in the third period and kept the Big Green off the scoreboard with seven saves.
It took Dartmouth 18:40 to take the first lead of the game and then went up 2-0 in the span of 25 seconds. Cunningham gave the Big Green a 1-0 lead with a power play goal for her 17th of the season and fifth on the man advantage. Parsons assisted on the play for her first of two on the night.
Nanji, who had been scoreless for the last three games, got back on track with her sixth goal of the year with 55 seconds left in the period. Freshman Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Que.) recorded the assist to post a point for her third straight game.
Dartmouth dominated in the shot department with a 16-4 advantage and scored on its lone power play opportunity, while Union went 0-for-2 with the extra skater.
The Big Green increased the lead to 3-0 on Trunzo's 15th of the season with 13:28 remaining. Parsons continued to attack the defense with her passing as she earned her second assist. With the second helper, she now has posted multi-point games in five of her last six games.
Trunzo netted her second of the night with 49 seconds left in the middle frame to make it 4-0 going into the second intermission. Cunningham and senior Sarah Toupal (White Bear Lake, Minn.) were credited with the assists. For Trunzo, it was her third two-goal game of the season and both Cunningham and Toupal have scored in three straight games.
The third period was scoreless with Dartmouth holding a 7-6 advantage in shots. Overall, the Big Green outshot the Dutchwomen, 42-14, and Dartmouth went 1-for-6 on the man advantage. Union was kept of the board with four power play chances.
With the win, the Big Green stays in the eighth position for the playoff hunt and will head across town to Troy to face Rensselaer tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
