HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team hosts Colgate and Cornell for its last regular home weekend of the 2009-10 season. The Big Green will also be saying goodbye for four of its seniors on Saturday night after the game against the Big Red. Dartmouth is needing some valuable league points as playoffs are just around the corner.
DARTMOUTH-COLGATE SERIES
Colgate and Dartmouth have one of the most evenly matched series the Big Green plays in. The two teams began meeting in 1929 as Dartmouth opened up with an 8-1 victory. The Big Green began the series with 11 straight wins and currently leads in the series 40-39-4. Earlier this season the Raiders took a 3-2 victory over Dartmouth in Hamilton.
SCOUTING COLGATE
Colgate brings a 12-13-5 overall record and a 9-8-1 ECAC Hockey record to Hanover this weekend. The Raiders just recently lost to Cornell, 6-2 before splitting last weekend to Yale (3-6) and Brown (6-2). Colgate has won or tied six of its last 10 games. The Raiders sit in sixth place in the league standings with 18 points
Two players have more than 30 points for Colgate already this season as sophomore Austin Smith leads the squad in scoring with 34 points. Senior David McIntyre has chipped in 31 as seven other players are in double-figures in scoring. Juniors Brian Day and Francois Brisebois both have 20 or more points with 30 and 22, respectively.
In net two goalies have been instrumental for the Raiders. Sophomore Alex Evin has made the most appearances with 19 while senior Charles Long has appeared in 14 and sophomore Bryan Bessette has played in two.
Evin leads with a 2.94 goals against average and a .901 save percentage. He's recorded seven wins while Long has the other five.
DARTMOUTH-CORNELL SERIES
In one of Dartmouth's longest series, Cornell holds the advantage, 72-42-2. The two teams met for the first time on Feb. 5, 1909 with a 1-0 Dartmouth victory in Hanover. Since Bob Gaudet took over the coaching reins at his alma mater, his teams have gone 15-12-11 against the Big Red. Earlier this seaosn Cornell took a 5-1 win over Dartmouth in Lynah Rink.
SCOUTING CORNELL
Cornell comes to Hanover after having defeated Colgate, 6-2 to regain a share of first place with 26 points. Last weekend Cornell lost to Yale to relinquish the top spot briefly. Cornell has lost two recent league games with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs and a 5-3 loss to Princeton the week before.
Currently Cornell has eight players scoring in double-figures as senior Blake Gallagher leads the way with 31 points. Classmate Colin Greening is not far behind in scoring with 27 points. Gallagher and Greening are the top goal producers with 16 and 12, respectively and each has amassed 15 assists.
In goal senior Ben Scrivens has carried the load all season, appearing in 25 contests. He has a stellar 2.03 goals against average and a .930 save percentage. He has all the wins and losses for the Big Red. Sophomore Mike Garman has made just one appearance.
NEXT UP
Dartmouth continues at home for its last series of the season with games against Colgate and Cornell.
LAST GAME
Dartmouth took a four-goal first period lead but couldn't hold on as Union came to tally five unanswered goals and win, 5-4.
The next night against Rensselaer, the Engineers pulled ahead 3-1 going into the final period. The Big Green notched the tying and game winning goals in the waning minutes of the game to take a 4-3 victory.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Junior Adam Estoclet was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week for Jan. 11. It is the first honor for a Dartmouth player so far this season.
TOP SCORERS
Junior Adam Estoclet is the Big Green's top point getters with 24 points. Classmate Scott Fleming is right behind with 23, he is also the top goal scorer with 12 while classmate Matt Reber and Estoclet are the top playmakers with 14 assists.
WHAT A PERIOD
Against Union on Feb. 12, Dartmouth notched four first period goals, a first for the Big Green this season. It's just the second time in 2009-10 Dartmouth has had four or more goals in a period.
QUICK SCORING
Against Union on Feb. 12, Dartmouth potted three goals in under two minutes (5:37, 6:07 and 7:20). The last time the Big Green had such a succession of goals was on Feb. 15, 2008 vs. Quinnipiac, potting goals at 13:05, 13:56 and 14:27 in the third period.
“POWER”FUL BIG GREEN
Dartmouth notched two power play goals against Rensselaer. It marks just the second time this season the Big Green has recorded more than one power play goal in a game.
MORE POWER
With two power play goals against Quinnipiac on Jan. 29 it marks the first time since Nov. 21 that Dartmouth has notched two power play goals in a game.
MELLO YELLOW
Sophomore James Mello started both games against Rensselaer and Union on Jan. 22 and 23. Against Union, Mello earned his first career win.
MORE MELLOW
James Mello started against Yale and Brown on Feb. 5 and 6. In the two games he racked up 86 saves with a career-high 47 coming against the Bulldogs.
LEADERS 'TIL THE END
After a two-goal lead going into the third period against Union, Dartmouth came away with a 3-1 victory. The Big Green is 5-1 after holding the lead going into the final period of play.
HERE'S A HAT
Junior Adam Estoclet recorded his first career hat trick on Jan. 8 against Brown. The junior tallied two in the first and one in the third. It is Dartmouth's first hat trick since David Jones on Feb. 24, 2006 against Clarkson.
A WHOLE LOT OF POINTS
With a goal and four assists against Brown on Jan. 8, Matt Reber was the first Dartmouth player since Mike Ouellette and Nick Johnson on Nov. 19, 2005 to record five points in a game.
PILING IT ON
Six different players recorded goals in a 9-4 victory over Brown on Jan. 8. Adam Estoclet, Nick Walsh, Kyle Reeds, Scott Fleming, Evan Stephens and Matt Reber each scored goals. Seven different players had a multiple point game against the Bears.
A SHORTY FOR THE HOME TEAM
Dartmouth's Evan Stephens scored the first shorthanded goal of the season against Brown on Jan. 8. It was the first in his career. Scott Fleming got into the act with one against Quinnipiac on Jan. 29.
TO WALSH FROM WALSH
On Jan. 29 against Quinnipiac, rookie Dustin Walsh potted two goals with his older brother, Nick getting the assists. It was the first time this season the Walsh brothers connected for a goal, much less two.
STEPPING OUT OF HIS SHADOW
Older brothers Connor Goggin and Nick Walsh made their presence known on Jan. 8 against Brown. Goggin had two assists with five shots and a +4 while Walsh recorded a career-high three points with two goals while also notching a +4.
TO GOGGIN FROM GOGGIN
Against Brown, Mark and Connor Goggin both assisted on a goal then against Yale, Connor set younger brother Mark up for the Big Green's second goal of the game.
HE'S MY BROTHER
On Dec. 19 against Vermont, Dartmouth's three sets of brothers took to the ice together for the first time all season. Younger brothers Dustin Walsh, Mark Goggin and Jim Gaudet all played with older siblings Nick Walsh, Connor Goggin and Joe Gaudet. The siblings have now played in the past five Big Green games.
IN THE NICK OF TIME
Sophomore Nick Walsh has recorded six points in the last eight games he's played. The Big Green forward had played in just one game before appearing in the Vermont game on Dec. 19.
A BREAK-OUT GAME
Freshman Mark Goggin recorded his first multiple-point game of the season with two goals against Vermont on De. 19.
MATTER OF TIME
Rob Smith had the first goal of the season at 2:43 of the first period on Oct. 30. Kyle Reeds lit the lamp just 1:13 into the contest against Sacred Heart for the earliest goal scored this year. The latest goal was Josh Gillam's strike at 18:06 in the third on Nov. 29 against Harvard.
MATTER OF TIME, TAKE TWO
Mark Goggin tallied a goal with two seconds on the clock in the first period against Vermont on Dec. 19. Teammate Evan Stephens continued the excitement, scoring his second goal of the season with 11 ticks on the clock in the second period against the 'Cats.
STREAKING
Forwards Nick Walsh and Matt Reber are the only two Dartmouth players on scoring streaks right now. They've each recorded a point in the Big Green's last two games.
SHOOTING OUT THE LIGHTS
Dartmouth has outshot all but nine of its opponents already this season with 40 or more shots coming against Harvard (twice), Colgate, St. Lawrence and Brown.
OPPONENT SHOOTERS
Dartmouth has had six teams record 40 or more shots on net this season. Princeton had 41, Providence 47, Vermont 40, Northeastern 42, Brown 46 and Yale with the most this year, 51.
OFFENSIVE DEFENSE
Defenseman Evan Stephens has been Dartmouth's top scoring blueliner for the past two seasons. Stephens has already racked up nine points this season while Peter Boldt has five points, Joe Stejskal and Connor Goggin with three and Jim Gaudet with one.
NICE TO MEET YOU
Mark Goggin has played in the most games of all freshmen this season. He's seen time in 14 games while Dustin Walsh is second with 13 games played, he's missed the last four with an injury. Several of their classmates have seen some considerable time as well as Alex Goodship has played in eight, Jason Bourgea in nine and Mike Keenan in seven. Goalie Charles Corsi has seen time in one game this season.
THE SECOND'S THE BEST
Dartmouth has enjoyed playing the second period this season as the Big Green has scored most of its points in that frame. Dartmouth has potted 54 of its 150 points in the second period alone.
ON THE OTHER HAND
Despite an occasional slow start over the last 12 seasons, Dartmouth has gone 114-113-26 after January 1 during Bob Gaudet's tenure. During that span the Big Green has won the ECAC Regular Season title and an Ivy League title.
WELCOME BACK
With the first goal of the game against Harvard, senior Rob Smith was officially welcomed back. Smith suffered a season-ending injury in 2008-09, just two games into the year.
INJURY UPDATE
Defenseman Mike Keenan has been lost for the season due to an injury he suffered in practice prior to the Providence game on Nov. 27.
COLLEGIATE FIRSTS
Rookies Dustin Walsh and Mark Goggin each collected their first collegiate goals against Colgate on Nov. 7. Walsh scored first in the second period before Goggin's tally tied the game in that same frame. Alex Goodship recorded his first collegiate point with an assist in a win over Harvard on Nov. 29. On Jan. 2, freshman netminder Charles Corsi saw his first action of the season when he came on in the second period against Northeastern.
NOT SPECIAL YET
The offensive side of the special teams game has not been favorable for Dartmouth yet this season. The Big Green has just 11 power play goals in 93 attempts. Dartmouth's opponents have managed 23 power play goals on 99 attempts. The Big Green has held six teams (Princeton, Clarkson, Providence, Yale, Rensselaer, Union) scoreless on the extra-man attempt.
FEEL THE POWER
The power play goal scored against Union on Jan. 23 was Dartmouth's first since Jan. 10.
BIG GREEN BROTHERS
Dartmouth will have three sets of brothers dotting the roster this season. Senior Joe Gaudet welcomed younger brother Jim last year. In 2009-10 older brothers Connor Goggin and Nick Walsh will welcome younger siblings Mark and Dustin.
JODY OH
Last season, goalie Jody O'Neill was named both the Ivy League and the ECAC's Rookie of the year. The first time Dartmouth has had a player earn both honors since Hugh Jessiman in 2003.
PENALTY SHOT
Against Yale on Nov. 5, Dartmouth gave up its first penalty shot since Jan. 12, 2005 against UNH. Broc Little of Yale was able to convert on his shot, allowing the Bulldogs to tie the game.
HE LIKES BROWN
Adam Estoclet enjoyed playing Brown this season as the junior racked up his first career hat trick against the Bears on Jan. 8 and then had another three points on Feb. 6.
OVERTIME BABY
On Feb. 6, Dartmouth went into overtime for just the second time this season. The Big Green ended the game in a 5-5 tie with Brown. On Nov. 13, Dartmouth and Princeton went to overtime with the Tigers taking the win.
EXHIBITION OPENERS
Dartmouth made its first appearance on Thompson Arena ice on Oct. 24 against McGill University in an exhibition. McGill skated away with a 7-4 victory as junior Adam Estoclet potted two goals while freshmen Mike Keenan and Mark Goggin scored the other two.
SEASON OPENERS
Dartmouth opened up the 2009-10 season in the friendly confines of Thompson Arena. Despite scoring the first goal of the game, Harvard came back to take the opening season victory. Dartmouth is now 67-31-3 in home openers and is 31-22-2 when opening up on the road. Under the tutelage of Bob Gaudet, the Big Green has gone 6-7 in the first game of the year.
FIRST IN AWHILE
Dartmouth's win at Harvard on Nov. 29 was the Big Green's first in Cambridge since the 1995-96 season. It's just the fifth time a Coach Gaudet squad has defeated the Crimson.
ALL-TOURNEY
Forward Joe Gaudet was named to the Ledyard National Bank Classic All-Tournament team. It's the first such honor for the senior assistant captain.
CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
Senior defenseman Peter Boldt is the 2009-10 Big Green captain. He will be the 118th captain in Dartmouth men's hockey history. Classmate Joe Gaudet and junior Scott Fleming will serve as assistant captains.
ECAC RECORD FOR NHL PLAYERS
When former Big Green forward Nick Johnson was called up by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Jan. 21, and playing on Evgeni Malkin's line, scored in his NHL debute, he became the seventh member of Dartmouth's '06-'07 squad to reach the NHL. That is believed to be an ECAC Hockey record for one team. Johnson joins Tanner Glass, T.J. Galiardi, David Jones, Grant Lewis, Ben Lovejoy and J.T. Wyman
NHL HOPEFULS
Dartmouth has four players currently on its roster that were drafted by NHL teams in the entry draft. Sophomores Troy Mattila and Joe Stejskal were both taken before coming to Dartmouth while Mark Goggin was drafted in 2008 and Dustin Walsh in 2009.
DARTMOUTH AND THE NHL
Lee Stempniak '05 is currently in his fifth NHL season. Last season he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs after three-+ seasons with the St. Louis Blues. He recorded his 100th career NHL point on Dec. 22 after posting a six-game point streak from Nov. 30-Dec. 11, notching seven points (4g, 3a) over the span. Tanner Glass '07 began the 2007-08 season with the Rochester Amerks but quickly made his way to the Florida Panthers and played 41 games in the NHL, scoring two points. Glass was traded during the summer to Vancouver and was on the 2009-10 opening day roster for the Canucks. David Jones '08 left school early to sign a contract with Colorado and has been a huge factor for the Avs already this year. Ben Lovejoy '07 played several games last season for the Pittsburgh Penguins and was on the roster when the Pens won the Stanley Cup. Grant Lewis '07 also saw some time in 2008-09 with the Atlanta Thrashers. T.J. Galiardi signed early and is on the same roster as fellow Big Green forward David Jones. J.T. Wyman recently got into the act with his first game with the “Big Club” on Dec. 22 at Boston. Nick Johnson played his first game for Pittsburgh on Jan. 21.
