Dartmouth Women's Squash Goes 3-0 at the Howe Cup

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The #9 ranked Dartmouth women's squash team defeated the #16 ranked Colby Mules, 9-0 to begin the tournament. The Big Green then scored a victory over the #12 ranked Mt. Holyoke Lions before defeating #10 ranked Brown Bears, 7-2 concluding a very busy weekend on the squash courts at the Pizzitola Sports Center on the campus of Yale University. The three victories gave Dartmouth the 2010 Kurtz Cup in the B Division of the Howe Cup.

The Big Green lost only two games all weekend as Brown took victories at No. 8 and No. 9 on Saturday to kick off the National Championships. But Dartmouth bounced right back and swept its next two opponents.

Brown was the only team Dartmouth faced that really gave the Big Green a run for its money as six of the nine matches went past three games. In the second match against Mt. Holyoke, the Big Green won all its matches in three games while the final game against Brown had six of nine spots on the ladder winning in three.

Valeria Wiens at No. 1 won all her matches. Corey Schafer at No. 2 was victorious in all her matches as well, losing just two games. Rebecca Lau played at No. 3 and won against Brown, only dropping one game. Hannah Conant played at No. 3 against Mt. Holyoke and Colby, winning in four before moving to No. 4 against Brown, winning in three games. Libbey Brown played at No. 5 and No. 4, winning all her matches. Maura Doherty was at No. 6 and 7, losing just one game on the weekend.
