HANOVER, NH - The 10th-ranked women's sailing team took sixth at the Dellenbaugh Women's Regatta, while the 18th-ranked coed team finished seventh at the Ferrarone Team Race at Roger Williams.
At the Dellenbaugh Women's Regatta at Brown, the 10th-ranked women's team finished sixth overall in a very competitive field of 18 teams. The Big Green beat nationally-ranked teams that are ahead of Dartmouth in the rankings, including No. 3 Old Dominion and Ivy rival Yale, who is seventh in the country.
The Big Green struggled a little on Saturday, which was very windy and wavy, and ended the day in 10th overall. However, Dartmouth fought back and had a fantastic Sunday, including four consecutive first-place finishes by senior Becca Dellenbaugh (Easton, Conn.) and sophomore Rachel Moncton (Cupertino, Calif.) in the A Division and two firsts by freshman Chandler Salisbury (Lakewood, Ohio) and senior Steph Gagnon (Westerly, R.I.) in B Division. Dartmouth was very fast in a moderate wind on Sunday, and pulled up to sixth overall. The Big Green ended up finishing third in A Division, continuing Dellenbaugh's excellent spring season, and sixth in B Division.
At the Ferrarone Team Race at Roger Williams, the 18th-ranked coed team placed seventh out of 10 teams after winning eight races, but dropping 10 over the weekend.
“In team racing, three boats from one school face off in a group match against another team of three boats from another school, making it a very exciting and tactically challenging format that requires a lot of teamwork,” said co-head coach John Pearce. “Our team improved a lot over the weekend, as its looking forward to another team racing event next weekend at the Friis/Marchiando Regatta at MIT.”
At the Southern Series at the University of Rhode Island, Dartmouth placed second out of five schools with sophomore Bernie Roesler (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and sophomore Raquel Merchant (New York, N.Y.) sailing in the A Division and freshman John Renehan (Seattle, Wash.) and freshman Molly Wilson (Rye, N.Y.) in the B Division.
