HANOVER, N.H. — On the strength of the second lowest round of the day by senior Katie Gulemi (Fairfield, Conn.) with a 74 (+2) and junior co-captain Heather Roland (Newtown Square, Pa.) right on her heels with a 75 (+3), the Dartmouth women's golf team finished the Dartmouth Invitational in third place, up a spot from the first day of competition. The Big Green posted a 309 (+21) in the final round at Hanover Country Club today to surpass Siena, which shot a 312 (+24), in the final standings by two strokes.
Boston College did not relinquish its first-day lead, carding a 305 (+17) today to complete the tournament at 35-over par for the team title, 22 strokes ahead of Dartmouth and nine in front of Towson, which placed second. Stephanie Yu of BC took home medalist honors with a 74-74—148 (+4), knocking off Wellesley's Kimberly Eaton in a playoff. Gulemi finsihed just four strokes off the pace with a 78-74—152 (+8) to tie for sixth overall.
Roland, who tied for 10th with an 80-75—155 (+11), and sophomore Colleen Carroll (Bettendorf, Iowa) provided the big highlights of the day for the Big Green as each eagled a hole. Carroll also finished among the top 20 with twin 79s on Saturday and Sunday to shoot 14-over par. Both Roland and Gulemi were among the top scorers on the par-five holes, shooting three-under for the tournament.
Improving by at least five strokes from the first round to today were sophomore Julie Campbell (Bozeman, Mont.) with an 87-71—168 (+24) and freshman Sarah Knapp (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) who carded an 87-82—169 (+25).
The Big Green women will play next at the Yale Invitational this weekend.
