Matsuoka and Decker-Sadowski Finish Second & Third at UVA Tennis Tourney

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Dartmouth women's tennis freshmen Melissa Matsuoka (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Rachel Decker-Sadowski (Santa Barbara, Calif.) finished second and third respectively in the "D" Flight at the University of Virgina Fall Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Matsuoka was edged 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final by Winthrop's Andressa Garcia, while Decker-Sadowski defeated Annette Rios of UNC-Greensboro 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 in the third place playoff.

Also competing in the "D" flight, sophomore Jeri Reichel (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) won her back draw match against No. 3 seed Steph MacFarlane of the University of North Carolina-Greensboro 6-0, 7-5. Sophomore Christina Danosi (New Albany, Ohio) won her back draw "C" Flight match against Ashely Tanner of Utah 7-6, 7-5. Senior tri-captain Ryan Reichel (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) was winning her "C" Flight back draw match 5-4 against Wake Forest's Ryan Cutillo when Cutillo retired. Senior tri-captain Georgiana Smyser (Houston, Texas) dropped her "C" Flight singles match to NC State's Christy Sipes, who earlier in the tournament had beaten Danosi.

The Big Green return to action on October 9 at the USTA National Tennis Center College Invitational in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. Senior tri-captain Molly Scott (Trabuco Cyn, Calif.) will also compete for the second year at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, which starts October 2 and is held at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
