HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's squash team split on Saturday at the Berry Racquet Center as the Big Green lost to Yale, 7-2 before beating Amherst, 9-0.
In the opening game against the Elis, a pair of underclassmen earned wins for the Big Green as sophomore Chris Hanson (Greenwich, Conn.) was victorious at No. 1 and freshman Fletcher Pease (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a win at No. 7.
Hanson took the first two wins easily by the same, 11-4 score but then Hywel Robinson retired in the third giving Hanson his fourth game of the season. Pease battled hard with Neil Martin as the match went to five games. Martin won the first two 11-9 and 11-7 but Pease bounced back and took the next three 13-11, 11-7, 11-5.
The afternoon match against Amherst was an easy match for the Big Green as the home team won all but two matches in three games. Robbie Maycock (Devonshire, Bermuda), Stephen Wetherill (Ambler, Pa.) and Jack Barrett (Riverside, Conn.) all had to go to four games before sealing the win for Dartmouth as the Big Green won its fifth game by virtue of a sweep.
Dartmouth will be back in action on Jan. 15 and 16 against Trinity, Franklin & Marshall and Bates.
