NEW HAVEN, CONN. — Senior Peter Williamson (Hanover, N.H.) claimed the individual tournament title at the Macdonald Cup on Sunday, and the Dartmouth men's golf team finished third in the 14-team event at the Yale golf course. Yale won the team title with an overall score of 565 (+5), Princeton took second at 570 (+10) and the Big Green placed third at 573 (+13).
Williamson shot a 1-over-par 71 a day after he carded a 5-under-par 65 to win the tournament with a 4-under-par 136. The Bulldogs' Sam Bernstein finished one shot off the lead with a 3-under-par 137. Branden Chicorka took third with a 1-under-par 139.
The par-70 6,749-yard course played tougher on day two, but Dartmouth held on to third place with help from its other four players. Junior James Pleat (Nashua, N.H.) finished tied for second with a two-round total of 142 (+2), sophomore Gavin Duarte (Diamond Bar, Calif.) tied for 23rd with a 146 (+6) and freshman Charles Edler (Fair Haven, N.J.) and sophomore Joey Maziar (Atlanta, Ga.) shot a 148 (+8).
The Big Green play next weekend, Oct. 8-9, at the Big 5 Invite at Plymouth Country Club.
