NEW HAVEN, CONN. — The Dartmouth women's tennis team opened play at the ITA Northeast Regional on Friday hosted by Yale. The qualifying singles draw and the doubles draw began play.
In the qualifying singles bracket, sophomore Rachel Decker-Sadowski (Santa Barbara, Calif.) lost to Nina Turudic of Cornell, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(1).
The Big Green saw some mixed results in doubles. The eighth seed of sophomore Melissa Matsuoka (Newport Beach, Calif.) and freshman Akiko Okuda (Tenafly, N.J.) lost to unseeded Lauren Frazier and Gabby Sullivan of Cornell, 8-5.
The duo of Decker-Sadowski and freshman Janet Liu (Palo Alto, Calif.) defeated their first round opponent, Ksenia Kuzmenko and Monika Graff of NJIT, 8-6. The Dartmouth combo followed that up with a victory over Nina Turudic and Ryann Young of Cornell, 9-7.
On Saturday, the action continues with the team of Decker-Sadowsi and Liu taking on the top seeds from Harvard, Kristin Norton and Hideko Tachibana. In singles, Liu plays Erin McCarthy of Marist, Okuda plays Ksenia Kuzmenko of NJIT and Matsuoka has a bye and then will play the winner of Lili Johnson of Manhattan or Monica Yajima of Fairfield.
