NEW HAVEN, CONN. — The women's ITA Northeast Regionals continued on Saturday and Dartmouth freshman Akiko Okuda (Tenafly, N.J.) advanced to the Round of 32 after winning two matches.
In the first round, Okuda faced Ksenia Kuzmenko and won easily, 6-2, 6-2. Okuda took on the eighth seed, Rachel Salontz of Princeton, in the Round of 64 and won in straight sets, 7-6(6), 6-4.
Sophomore Melissa Matsuoka (Newport Beach, Calif.), the tournament's 17th seed, had a bye in the opening round, but lost to Monica Yajima of Fairfield, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, in the second. Freshman Janet Liu (Palo Alto, Calif.) also made the second round after besting Erin McCarthy of Marist, 6-2, 6-1. In the second round, Liu lost to the seeded Ryann Young of Cornell, 6-4, 7-6(3).
In doubles, the duo of sophomore Rachel Decker-Sadowski (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Lui lost to the top seed, Norton and Tachlbana from Harvard, in the Round of 16, 8-3.
On Sunday, Okuda plays Hanna Yu of Yale at 1 p.m.
