Women's College Tennis Invitational - Day Two

FLUSHING, N.Y. — On the second day of the USTA Billie Jean King Women's College Invitational, the Dartmouth women's tennis team had several players compete in singles and doubles.
Freshman Theresa Smith (University Park, Fla.) won her quarterfinal contest against Ilona Serchenko of Northern Texas, 3-6, 7-5, 10-8, but lost in the semifinals to Stephanie Kent of Yale.
Fellow freshman Janet Liu (Palo Alto, Calif.), the E Draw's third seed, defeated Taylor Hollander of Binghamton in the second round before losing Laura Wiley of Brown in the semifinals. In the C Draw, freshman Akiko Okuda lost to fourth-seeded Vanessa Petrini of Rutgers, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5, and then lost her match in the consolation bracket to Columbia's Crystal Leung.
In the consolation bracket of the F Draw, sophomore Rachel Decker-Sadowski (Santa Barbara, Calif.) won both of her matches in straight sets to move on to the consolation finals. Senior Shelley Carpeni (New York, N.Y.) moved on to the finals of the I Draw consolation bracket with two victories.
The duo of Decker-Sadowski and Liu competed in the semifinals of the doubles C Draw and lost to Serchenko and Barbara Vykydalova of Northern Texas.
