The Dartmouth College men's and women's swimming and diving programs continue
the 2011-12 slate with the first home meet of the season against Brown on Saturday
(Nov. 19). The meet will begin with diving at 11 a.m. and the swimming portion
will begin at 1 p.m.
BIG GREEN TIDBITS
Home Sweet Home - The Dartmouth swimming and diving
teams will open the 2011-12 home schedule this weekend against Brown. Saturday's
meet marks the third consecutive season the Big Green has hosted at least one
home meet before its annual winter training trip. The last season Dartmouth
didn't host a home meet before its training trip was during the 2008-09 season.
Big Win For The Big Green Men - The Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team had a great season-opening meet with Cornell and Harvard. The Big Green defeated Cornell, 187-113, marking the first win for the men's squad over the Big Red in 35 years.
Big Green Ranked In Mid Major Rankings - The Dartmouth men and women's swimming and diving programs were ranked in the initial CollegeSwimming.com's mid major poll of the season. The men's team starts at No. 12 while the women's team opens the season at No. 22.
Men's Team Earns a Top 20 Ranking in AvidaSports Performance Rankings - The Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team also earned a spot in the Nov. 17 AvidaSports Performance Rankings. The Big Green is ranked No. 20. The Avida Performance Index is a ranking of average percentile for each team's individual swims. Rankings are calculated from Hy-Tek result files received from submitted to CollegeSwimming.com
Dartmouth Women Open Strong - Like the Dartmouth men, the Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team also opened the 2011-12 season with a win over Cornell. The women won four events and were paced by freshman Valerie Orellana (Arleta, Calif.) who won both the 100 and 200 butterfly events.
Zupan Continues His Long Distance Dominance - Sophomore Nejc Zupan (Kamnik, Slovenia) one again struck in the long distance events against Cornell and Harvard. The reining Ivy League champion in the 1000 and 1650 free, won the 1000 free with a time of 9:25.3 and claimed the 500 free with a time of 4:33.30.
Feng Posts Another Win in the 3-Meter Diving Competition - Sophomore Katy Feng (Westford, Maine) won the 3-meter competition against Cornell and Harvard with a score of 251.75 . Feng, coming off a terrific freshman season, has won seven 3-meter competitions in dual meets in her collegiate career.
Aloha - The Dartmouth swimming and diving squads will take their annual training trip to Hawaii this season. Last year, the Big Green spent two weeks in Puerto Rico and St. Croix training and this season will return to Hawaii, a place they have trained previously. Dartmouth most recently went to Hawaii for its 2009 training trip.
Big Green Host Second Annual Dartmouth College Invitational - The Dartmouth College Invitational is on the Big Green schedule for the second consecutive season. The Big Green will welcome Bryant and UMass to the second annual invitational held at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vt., Jan. 27-28.
Barry and Pinson Named Captains of the Women's Squad - Seniors Galen Barry (Wayne, Pa.) and Kelsey Pinson (Portland, Ore.) were named captains for the women's swimming and diving squad for the 2011-12 season.
Stumpf and Ahern Lead Dartmouth Men's Squad - Seniors Matt Stumpf (Palm Harbor, Fla.) and Mickey Ahern (Old Westbury, N.Y.) were named captains for the men's swimming and diving squads during the 2011-12 season.
Wilson Returns for 19th Season- Head Coach Jim Wilson is in his 19th season as head coach of the Dartmouth swimming and diving squads. Wilson, originally hired to coach the Dartmouth men, took over the women's team in 2006. Wilson also returns assistant coaches Jesup Szatkowski and Jenn Verser while Chris Hamilton returns as Dartmouth's diving coach.
