HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team put forth a strong effort in its second meet of the season on Friday, as the Big Green narrowly fell to Cornell 158-142 and lost to Harvard 217-82.
Â
The efforts marked continued steps forward for the program; the Big Green fell to the Big Red by 153 points in the dual meet last season, closing the gap to 16 this year.
Â
"Once again, our men put up a strong fight, forcing it to come down to the last relay to determine the outcome of the meet this time with an opponent who would have been predicted to capably beat us, and we fell short of securing the win," said head coach
Milana Socha. "While I'm pleased to see that we are finally in position to be really competing and making things interesting in League competition, we still have some work ahead to turn 'being in contention' into wins. I know our men are hungry now and I am confident in their ability to use this as fuel going into our mid-season invite and for the next phase of the Ivy League dual meet season."
Â
There were a number of highlights in the meet, including
Jacob Turner in the 200 IM when he won the event over both Cornell and Harvard, while setting a Dartmouth pool record, with a time of 1:47.28. Turner's time of 1:59.35 in the 200 breaststroke was also good for a win over Cornell.
Â
Several Big Green earned event wins over Cornell. In diving,
McCoy Lyman and
Everett Tai finished first and second against the Big Red in 3-meter diving with scores of 368.95 and 316.60.

Â
Also, Tai on the 1-meter and Lyman on the 3-meter qualified for NCAA Diving Zones for a chance to make it to the national championship.
