HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team opened its 2025-26 season this weekend by hosting Brown and Princeton at the Karl Michael and Spaulding Pools. The Big Green fell to Princeton 228-72 and Brown 157-143, marking the closest they have been to Brown since 2010.
Â
"Our men showed up really fighting for it," said Dartmouth head coach
Milana Socha. "It was a clear full-team effort with folks trying to close every point possible. Three of our first-years posted program all-time top 10 performances, we had multiple lifetime best times and our men forced a team that beat us at Ivy Championships by over 350 points last year down to the final relay to determine which team would come out on top in a head to head dual… all in just the first official meet of the season."
Â
One highlight came with
Jacob Turner capturing an outright event win over Brown and Princeton, finishing the 400 IM with a time of 3:55.43, just ahead of the Tigers' Jiarui Xue in second (3:55.60).
Â
The Big Green also picked up several event wins over Brown.
McCoy Lyman was second to Princeton in the 3-meter dive (361.55 points), but ahead of all Bears' divers. Dartmouth's 200 medley relay (
Andrew Chou,
David Kushnirsky,
William McClelland and
Colton Rasmussen) beat the Bears with a time of 1:29.52, ahead of Brown's top time of 1:31.08.
Â
Other event wins over Brown were
Yan Dvoretskiy in the 200 freestyle (1:38.29),
Andrew Chou in the 100 backstroke (48.21), Turner in the 200 butterfly (1:48.50), Turner in the 200 breaststroke (2:01.09) and Chou in the 100 butterfly (48.51).
Â
There were a number of lifetime best times, including in the 200 medley relay: McClelland's 50 butterfly split (21.38), Turner's 50 butterfly split (21.74) and
Jihoon Jung's 50 breaststroke split (25.56). Additionally,
David Gal had a lifetime best in the 200 freestyle (1:39.42), McClelland in his 100 freestyle split as part of the 400 freestyle relay (44.11) and Gal in his 100 freestyle split as part of the 400 freestyle relay (45.10).
Â
"We've got a lot of opportunity knocking at the door this season and I believe this men's team is ready to bring that door down," said Socha.
